In 2017, Central Maryland Regional Transit will rebrand and become the Center for Mobility Equity.

*Please note: throughout this document CMRT and Center for Mobility Equity are used interchangeably.

Central Maryland Regional Transit (CMRT) operated transit services in Howard and Anne Arundel counties, as well as the City of Laurel from 1987 to 2014, and began its Mobility Management program in support of its mission in 2009. CMRT’s Mobility Management efforts focus on providing Travel Training to riders and human services professionals, as well as TRIP: a one-call, one-click resource that provides trip planning information and assistance to transit-dependent populations. In 2014, transit operations were migrated from CMRT to the Regional Transportation Agency as CMRT began its shift to serving transit-riders within Central Maryland through its Mobility Management programs.

In order to more accurately reflect what we do, who we serve, and where we want to go, the staff and the Board of Directors are pleased to have chosen Center for Mobility Equity as our new name. We believe that it properly reflects our commitment to making sure all riders have the knowledge and the confidence to participate in educational and employment opportunities, live rich social lives, and thrive in their communities, whether urban or rural.

To mark the occasion, we are launching a competition to design a new logo to be used as the identity of the Center for Mobility Equity moving forward.

The winning submission may require minor additional editing as requested by Center for Mobility Equity staff before final award is distributed. The new logo may be used on the CMRT website, social media sites, business cards, letterhead, posters, souvenir trinkets and gifts, or anywhere else CMRT chooses.  

This document describes the official requirements and rules of the competition.

By entering, participants agree to be bound by these contest rules.  Violating any rule or not following instructions may eliminate participants’ eligibility. CMRT has the right to disqualify any entrant at any time at its sole discretion.

 

Eligibility

  1. The contest is open to everyone, although submissions by individuals rather than organizations are preferred.
  2. Contestants are permitted to work in groups; however, only one (1) prize will be awarded regardless of group size. Any distribution of prize money will need to be agreed upon by the group who entered the winning submission.

 

Submission Guidelines and How to Enter

  1. The contest is open from 12:01 a.m. February 14, 2017 and closes at 11:59 p.m. March 14, 2017. Late submissions will not be considered.  The winner will be selected and notified by March 17, 2017.
  2. All entries must be submitted electronically to CMRT at [email protected]
  3. Submissions must include the full name(s) of the person(s) who designed the logo, name of school or other affiliation, email address, postal address, and telephone number.
  4. One or more submissions per person is acceptable.  Each submission must be sent in a separate email.
  5. There is no fee to enter the contest.

 

Logo Design Guidelines and Parameters

  1. The purpose of this contest is to design a logo to be used by the Center for Mobility Equity for all future events, activities, and promotional materials from the date of Contest completion forward.
  2. The logo’s design should reflect the Center for Mobility Equity’s role as a human services focused organization that provides travel training, and trip planning services. The logo’s design should capture the essence of the Center For Mobility Equity’s organizational mission.
  3. The logo must be appropriate for a professional business setting.

 

Entry Format

Entries must be submitted in 330dpi in at least one format from each of the following categories:

  • .EPS or .AI and
  • .JPEG, .PNG, or .PDF

The color profile must be CMYK. If not provided in the submission, a grayscale version must also be provided once the winning concept is chosen. The logo must be easy to use, handle, resize, and manipulate for all reproduction purposes.  It should be visually appealing and legible on both small (as small as 2 cm x 2 cm) and large scales.  Preference will be shown to submissions that include multiple representations of the logo concept, such as with and without logo type, etc.

Additionally, Center for Mobility Equity is seeking a redesign of the Transportation Resources Information Point logo that will match/coordinate with the new Center for Mobility Equity logo.  The additional/successful submission of a coordinating TRIP logo concept is worth an additional award (details in the "Determination of Winner and Prize" section).

 

Intellectual Property

  1. Entrants affirm their submissions are their own original work, have not been copied from others or from previous designs, including their own, and do not violate the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.
  2. Submissions become the sole property of Center for Mobility Equity and may be used for any  purposes, including, but not limited to, display on websites, business cards, letterhead, posters, and other materials.
  3. CMRT shall have the right to adapt, edit, modify, or otherwise use the winning submission in part or in its entirety in whatever manner it deems appropriate. CMRT reserves the right to request the winning artist to make reasonable edits of their submission before prize money is awarded.  This shall not exceed 2 rounds of edits.
  4. CMRT reserves the right to choose not to use the winning entry as described in these contest guidelines.
  5. If the winner is determined to have violated any rules, he/she will be required to forfeit or return the prize, even if the determination is made after the prize has been awarded.
  6. All property rights of the winning submission will transfer from Central Maryland Regional Transit to the Center for Mobility Equity when the name is legally amended with relevant state, local and federal agencies.

 

Determination of Winner and Prize

  1. The winning entry will be selected by a panel comprised of officials and employees of CMRT.  Their decision will be final and no further correspondence shall be entered into.
  2. Entries will be judged on their visual appeal, adherence to the concept prompting the contest, quality of design, and ease of reproduction for the purposes stated above.
  3. The prize for the winning entry is $2,500. This prize remains the same regardless of the size of the team submitting the winning entry.  The additional prize for a coordinating TRIP logo is $500.
  4. The winner will be notified via email and announced on the CMRT Facebook page and possibly through other media.

 

Disclaimer

  1. For the purposes of this contest, Central Maryland Regional Transit and Center for Mobility Equity are the same organization, and use of the name or abbreviation CMRT in the contest guidelines and rules implies Center for Mobility Equity.
  2. CMRT is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or otherwise unusable entries, including entries that are lost or unusable due to computer, internet, or electronic problems.
  3. CMRT reserves the right to cancel or modify the Contest and award the prize by alternate means if fraud or technical failure is determined at any time by CMRT, including after the submission window has closed.
  4. CMRT is not liable, for the purpose of winner and prize notification and delivery, in the event the contest winner has provided incorrect, outdated, or otherwise invalid contact information.
  5. If CMRT is unable to reach the winner in a timely manner (48 to 72 hours), it is within the organization's right to retain and use the logo submission or to select an alternate winner.
