About: Bus Safety and Security
At CMRT, our goal is to get you to your destination safely and on time. It’s a job we take very seriously, so please keep the following safety and security information in mind when riding with us. Welcome aboard—we hope you enjoy your ride!
CMRT Responsibilities:
CMRT is responsible for providing:
- Professional, courteous and quality service.
- A safe and dependable ride.
- Accurate and reliable information.
- Clearly displayed fare rates.
- A report process for incidents and disputes.
- A timely response to complaints and inquiries.
- A process for recommending improvements to the transit system.
Passenger Responsibilities:
To ensure you’re served with highest level of safety, please comply with the following procedures:
- Have exact fare ready when boarding.
- Present transfer to driver (unfolded and in one piece).
- Give Priority Seating to riders with disabilities and seniors.
- Take your seat in an orderly manner and remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.
- Do not occupy more than one seat.
- Close any stroller you bring on board and have children seated and attended to at all times.
- Do not distract the driver while the vehicle is moving.
- Keep arms and hands inside vehicle.
- Never lean against the doors.
- Stand behind the vehicle safety line.
- When standing, hold on to overhead hand rails or hand grips on backs of seats.
- Keep aisle clear.
- Never block door from closing.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke on the vehicle.
- Do not bring bicycles on the vehicle; use the bike rack on the front of the bus.
- Do not litter on the bus or at bus stops or shelters.
- Do not bring animals onto the vehicle (except service animals).
- Refrain from vulgar acts and language.
- Limit packages to two parcels.
- Do not transport hazardous materials on the bus.
When Boarding and Exiting the Bus
- Keep a safe distance from the curb as the bus pulls into the stop.
- Never run alongside the bus as it moves into or away from the stop – the driver cannot see you!
- When getting off the bus, NEVER cross the street in front of the bus – wait for it to leave the stop.
- Watch your step when boarding or exiting the bus, especially when wet are icy conditions exist.
- Always stay clear of doors when they are closing.
- Cross streets only at designated crosswalks.
- Obey all traffic signals.
- Look Left-Right-Left before crossing the street.
Drivers Are NOT Permitted To
- Carry passengers’ packages.
- Smoke on the vehicle.
- Leave the vehicle unattended while engines are operating.
- Play audio or video equipment.
- Use cell phones for personal use.
- Accept tips.
In The Event Of An Emergency
In an emergency, listen to and obey the instructions of the driver; he or she is trained for this type of situation. The driver’s area is equipped several safety features which will be deployed by the driver if necessary:
- First aid kit
- Fire extinguisher
- Hazardous spill kit
- Highway warning triangle
Your bus is also equipped with a ceiling escape hatch and escape windows on both sides, all of which are labeled and marked with distinctive red handles. Instructions for use can be found next to the handles.
